The prominent developer appears to be getting ready to alter San Antonio's skyline again.

In a series of skyline-altering projects, prominent San Antonio developer Weston Urban appears to be gearing up to start construction on its redevelopment of the old Continental Hotel building downtown. What was originally proposed as a 15-story tower, will now have 16 stories.

Site work, which can range from concrete work to utilities, is expected to begin at Dolorosa and Laredo street in September for the 16-story apartment tower, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The filing was registered under a subsidiary associated with Weston Urban, the owner of the property at 601 Dolorosa Street.

Mark Jensen, vice president at Weston Urban, is also listed in the filing. He was hired in 2019 by Weston Urban to oversee the company's focus on multifamily developments, the San Antonio Business Journal reported.

Weston Urban submitted plans to the Historic and Design Review Commission in July last year. At that time it was only 15 stories, where the first five stories will consist of a concrete parking garage with 351 parking spaces nestled between the Continental Hotel and Arana buildings.

Weston Urban owns the old Continental Hotel and neighboring Arana buildings.

The remaining 10 stories will have will 258 residential units starting with an "amenity" room on the sixth floor that leads to a sky terrace and pool overlooking the parking garage. It's unclear if the inclusion of a 16th floor still means the rooftop plans will still be incorporated.

Weston Urban, responsible for the new Frost Tower downtown, is also working on a 32-story residential tower 300 Main at 305 Soledad Street.
