Completion of Design of New Headquarters Building

Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. (President and Group CEO: Satoru Komiya, "TMHD") and Tokio

Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd., (President: Shinichi Hirose "TMNF") are pleased to announce the completion of the design of the new headquarters building ("The Building") which will be built as the redevelopment project of the current Tokio Marine Nichido main building and annex building.

The exterior of The Building is designed in harmony with streets in Marunouchi and with an elegance that is suitable for this symbolic site which connects Tokyo Station, the gateway of Japan and the Imperial Palace.

Wood plays the core role in design of The Building. The Building will be the world's largest wooden hybrid structure at the time of its completion by using in its structural components such as columns and floors an unprecedented amount of domestic fire retardant wood.

Wood, an eco-friendly material which emits less CO2 in its manufacturing process compared to steel and also absorbs and captures it. By utilizing domestic timber for much of The Building' structure it is estimated that this wooden structure and other CO2 reduction measures can reduce embodied CO2 of The Building by approximately 30% compared to regular construction.

In addition to wood usage, we are going to contribute to promotion of lower energy consumption and realization of decarbonized society by introducing highly efficient machinery, a zoned heating and cooling system, and will utilize renewable electricity.

Since Tokio Marine Insurance, the origin of Tokio Marine Group, was established on August 1st , 1879 as the first Japanese insurance company, we have expanded our business by supporting our customers and society and working together to solve the challenges that face society.

The Building will continue to be a center of Tokio Marine Group's evolving global business for the next 50 or 100 years and its characteristics such as first introduction of entire seismic isolation for the part above ground and other highly disaster resilient features and wood usage will contribute to realization of sustainable society so that The Building is will be a symbol of Tokio Marine' purpose.

※ 2: The Building achieved the highest grade of Platinum precertification in LEED® v4 for Building Design and Construction: New Construction category on February 27th , 2022.

We plan to use as much wood as possible by using many structural wooden columns and CLT (cross-laminated timber) for its floors.

The design motif of the rows of wooden columns are massive trees that have grown over many years and have become provide a sense of peace to the people who gather around them. They are an important element in the design of The Building.

The wooden columns and floors are wrapped in a glass facade that changes its expression delicately with the changing seasons and times and the facade forms a beautiful and impressive cube. The design of this cube comes from careful discussions with the designer on various points of view, such as harmony with Marunouchi, a city where business, history, and culture coexist, a sophisticated and elegant appearance suitable for this symbolic place, and human scale from a visitor's point of view.

We plan a lush green garden on the rooftop of The Building. It will provide people with a moment of tranquility and relaxation despite being in the hustle and bustle of the city. This garden, trees planted in a space called the patio at the center of the entrance, and those arranged around The Building seamlessly connect The Building and the Outer Gardens of the Imperial Palace, and these create a space where visitors can feel the changing seasons and the warmth of nature.

The Building is being designed by world-renowned firm Renzo Piano Building Workshop SAS (RPBW), established in 1981 by the Pritzker Prize laureate architect, Mr. Renzo Piano. The

Building is the first office building in Japan designed by the firm. Mr. Renzo Piano deeply sympathizes with purpose of Tokio Marine Group and significance of The Building. His firm in collaboration with Mitsubishi Jisho Design Inc, are working together to solve some of the challenges that come with creating an ambitious and pioneering building.

Born in Genoa, Italy in 1937. In 1981 he established Renzo Piano Building Workshop SAS ("RPBW"). RPBW has undertaken and completed over 140 projects around the world.
